Welcome to my eFolio
This digital portfolio contains a sampling of my research, professional and classwork experience as a social and behavioral health sciences concentrator at Boston University's School of Public Health. While this website covers my experience working across a wide range of public health topics, my most comprehensive coursework addresses barriers to exercise and physical activity as a means of obesity and overweight prevention.
According to a recent study by Duke University, roughly 80 percent of deaths in the U.S. today are caused by chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, hypertension, stroke and diabetes. From a financial perspective, approximately 75 percent of U.S. health care spending is for the management and treatment of chronic diseases. These and other similar figures compelled me to examine obesity and its relationship to deadly and costly chronic diseases as I completed my masters in public health.
